Saturday is the finals of the 2009 Eurovision song contest. I can’t say that I know any more about this contest other than that it is the Euro-only Olympics of song. So I’m assuming there’s gonna be lots of songs with thump thump thump Euro beats. I don’t know. I’m a little baffled by the whole thing. It seems that Germany has enlisted Dita Von Teese to play the role of “Miss Kiss” in the live performance of their entry. Weirdness.
So, what’s the deal? What’s the criteria for winning this thing? Performance? All the songs seem to be pop tunes so is catchiness what the judges are looking for? Or maybe it’s lyrical content? And if that’s the case, then why didn’t Lithuania win back in 2006?
