“…and the music’s too loud…”

It’s the audio production equivalent of “make the logo bigger.”  In my 20 years of production, I’ve never heard a spot I mixed on the air in which the music competed with the VO, but I’ve heard plenty that made me wonder why we bothered to put music in the spot. It has to do[…]

Best of 2011: Colin Stetson

Somehow I completely missed Colin Stetson‘s 2011 release New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges until it started showing up on people’s end-of-the-year best-of lists.   What to say?  Dude’s a monster.  Also engineer Efrim Menuck, producer Shahzad Ismaily and other producer Ben Frost did an amazing job capturing and mixing this.   From what I’ve read, something like[…]

Alasdair Gray’s Lucky Dogs

Yeah. I wish Alasadir Gray had created this for us. Nope. They are going in Hillhead subway station in Glasgow, Scotland. Oh well. They are certainly cool. As is this short video from the Guardian wherein Alasdair… ahem… excuse me… *achoo*… wherein…. *cough*… ahem… wherein Alasdair describes the murals.

B.U.G.S.

One of the great joys of summer vacation, for me at least, is catching local ads in new markets. Since every July I pack up the family and drive 14 hours to the coast, I usually catch at least one interesting ad somewhere along the way… This gem we caught in Fulton, MS on HGTV.[…]

New Booth

So… we’ve got a new VO booth.  It’s pretty cool.  We’ll have hi-res pictures soon.  But, so far, the talent’s been diggin’ our new digs.  Here’s an Instagram I got of Adrian last week.  Maybe this can be a new thing too.  Instead of Sleeve Faces we can start shooting Script Faces.

Send Us Your Lucky Dog Pictures

Just an idea.  I mean, we know they are other Lucky Dog businesses out there.  So, why not? Here’s one our buddy Dave sent us from Everett, Washington. Yeah! Dig that. Lucky Dog Sports bar. I googled them and it turns out they are a new business.  Awesome.  Best of luck guys.  We like the looks[…]

Earliest Daft Punk Performance Found

Pretty cool stuff. Apparently the Daft Punk guys backed up Koto in ’84 to help promote the “Jabdah” single. Unfortunately they were only allowed to play Koto’s analog BBQ smoker. But, in this video, you can totally see the ginormous influence Koto had on Daft Punk as a duo, both as composers and performers. Totally.

Webeloing

The Webelos were just here! Well, it was actually a couple of weekends ago. A Sunday to be exact. Anyway, the Webelos of Troop 30 were here to work on their Communicator badge. To do so, they toured our fine recording studio and then got to produce their very own radio spot. Using Bumpercar’s Nashville[…]
